What does US history tell us about the USA today -- and vice versa? On 4 July, the USA celebrates its first 250 years -- at a time when divisions in the country seem greater than ever.
Historian Niels Bjerre-Poulsen is one of the country's most cited USA experts and has a large and growing body of work on US history. He has written a number of books (including on the Vietnam War and civil USA), and has been one of the magazine's regular contributors since REASON's foundation, including as co-author of the flagship publication "World Powers" (sixth edition, 2025).
As always, there will be plenty of time for questions from the audience. Registration by 12.00 on the day before the event.
