San Sebastian is a small city with a big cultural calendar: a jazz festival that has run since 1966, a film festival that draws the world each September, a concert hall on the beach by Rafael Moneo, and a pintxo-bar night in the old town that starts early and never really ends. Concerts and events in San Sebastian: the Kursaal and the Victoria Eugenia

The Kursaal (Avenida de Zurriola 1, kursaal.eus), two glass cubes on the Zurriola beach, is the concert hall and the home of the film festival; the Teatro Victoria Eugenia (Paseo de la República Argentina 2), a 1912 theatre across the river, does drama, dance and music. The Jazzaldia festival in July fills the Kursaal, the beach and the Plaza de la Trinidad in the old town; touring rock plays the Illunbe and the Dabadaba club.

San Sebastian nightlife: the Parte Vieja and Gros

The Parte Vieja, the old town between the harbour and the Boulevard, is the pintxo circuit: a glass and a bite in each bar along Calle 31 de Agosto and Calle Fermín Calbetón from eight until midnight. Gros, across the river behind the surf beach, has the newer bars and the small clubs; the bars close at about 3 am, later at weekends.
