The Barclays Arena (Sylvesterallee 10) takes the arena tours, Docks and the Große Freiheit 36 on the Reeperbahn the mid-sized ones, and the Molotow, the Knust and the Uebel & Gefährlich in the flak tower the new bands. Laeiszhalle (Johannes-Brahms-Platz) is the older concert hall.
Hamburg nightlife: St. Pauli, the Schanze and the Kiez
The Reeperbahn and the streets around it, the Kiez, are the night: clubs, bars, the Große Freiheit and the Hans-Albers-Platz, open until the morning. The Sternschanze has the alternative bars and the Rote Flora, Ottensen the neighbourhood cafés. The U-Bahn and S-Bahn run all night at weekends.

The Hamburgische Staatsoper (Große Theaterstraße 25) stages opera and the Hamburg Ballet, John Neumeier’s company for fifty years, September to July. Hamburg is the musical capital of Germany: The Lion King and the other Stage Entertainment shows run for years in the harbour theatres across the Elbe, reached by ferry. The Thalia and the Schauspielhaus are two of the country’s great drama stages.
