About the event
From the organiser, as published on Ticketmaster.
NEVER WIPE AWAY TEARS WITHOUT GLOVES -- A COMPLETELY NEW MUSICAL Jonas Gardell's novel and TV series Never Wipe Away Tears Without Gloves absolutely captivated Sweden in autumn 2012. An entire Swedish nation fell in love with Rasmus and Benjamin and their friends with the legendary fool Paul at the helm.
For the first time in Sweden, a stage version is now being presented, in the form of a completely new musical by Fredrik Kempe and Jonas Gardell! Premiere at Göta Lejon in Stockholm on 24 September 2026.
Directed by Carl Johan Karlson, who created the cult production Inheritance at Dramaten. In the leading roles we see Ola Salo as Paul and as Rasmus and Benjamin we see Valdemar Wahlbeck and Martin Stokke Mathiesen.
With an orchestra conducted by Karl-Johan Ankarblom and a large ensemble, not to mention an absolutely lavishly expensive set design by Magdalena Åberg, this will be Stockholm's Big Stage event of 2026! Jonas Gardell and Fredrik Kempe have previously written the musical Life is a Schlager, a huge success with 200,000 visitors, and Fredrik Kempe has since had great success with the musicals As It Is in Heaven and Angel Farm.
They are now reunited in a musical they have been working on together since 2019. Never Wipe Away Tears Without Gloves was chosen by DN's readers as one of the three most important cultural events in Sweden in 150 years!
It made Jonas Gardell Swede of the Year, the TV series has been named "The Best Swedish TV Series of All Time" and the books have sold in the hundreds of thousands. Recommended from age 13 as the production contains sexually explicit scenes and depictions of suicide.
