About Rent
Rent is a rock musical by Jonathan Larson with music, lyrics and book by the composer. Loosely based on Puccini's 1896 opera La bohème, it follows a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in Lower Manhattan's East Village during the bohemian culture of Alphabet City. The story unfolds under the shadow of HIV and AIDS, exploring themes of love, friendship and artistic expression amongst a vibrant community of characters facing economic hardship and personal challenges.
