About Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional

Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional is Mexico's most important orchestral ensemble. With roots tracing back to 1854, it ranks amongst the country's oldest professional symphonic orchestras alongside the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco. The ensemble traces its direct lineage to the Orquesta Sinfónica de México, founded by Antonieta Rivas Mercado and conducted by Carlos Chávez in 1928. Though it lacks a permanent home, the orchestra regularly performs at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and falls under the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes.
